GIS
Horizons values the ability to partner with clients to find solutions for geographic information systems (GIS). The Horizons' team of
computer programmers, GIS specialists, cartographic editors and data processing personnel provide experience in gathering accurate map
data and structuring the data into an integrated system that is custom-tailored to each client's requirements and specifications.
Providing GIS information to clients from varied disciplines presents the ongoing challenge of staying current with all of the major
geographic software systems and hardware requirements. Horizons is committed to meeting this challenge. Software licenses are maintained
for all of the major commercial geographic software systems and mapping specialists are provided ongoing training in the applications.
Linear, point and polygon features are processed into topologically structured elements with linked tabular information. Raster image data
is provided in compatible formats that are georeferenced into the mapping coordinates so that the images can be used as another layer of
information. Often image pyramids or compression schemes are incorporated to improve performance over intranets and internets.
Horizons has found that the key to GIS service is communication and expertise. The successful GIS project begins with communication to gain
a thorough understanding of present and future needs. Horizons then uses its expertise to work with clients in planning and implementing a
comprehensive solution.
